I was very into sports in my youth all through high school I played
Football, Baseball and was an avid snowboarder. After high school, I
found myself overweight and out of shape - eating junk food all the
time and smoking on top of it.
Something had to change, so I set
out to lose the near 50 lbs I had put on. In my senior year in high
school I was  at 190 lbs...when the scale said 240 I couldn't believe
it.  I was depressed because of the way I felt and my attitude was
very negative. This had to change! My inspiration was something my
grandmother had said to me throughout my childhood and it finally
made sense.  "You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it
drink." I realized that I had all I needed to get what I wanted...I just
wasn't using it.

I immediately went on the no-carb diet, stopped smoking cold
turkey, and lost a lot of the weight that I put on . The problem - I also
lost a lot of the muscle I had from high school due to inactivity. I
decided to start working out at the gym lifting weights. While it was
good to do
something, I was just turning my wheels. I had no idea
what I was doing in the gym, so I just watched the bigger guys and
asked them for their advice.

Looking back, it's good that I made these mistakes. When I went
back to college full time, I saw an ad for a local gym that needed
trainers and thought I knew a good amount about fitness and knew I
could do the job. That is where I started to really learn about fitness,
nutrition and especially motivation.

Little did I know, that part time job turned into a full time passion.
The feeling I got when a client achieved their goal with my help was
fantastic. I studied and continued to learn. The one thing that made
me love the fitness industry was how young and constantly changing
it was. I started an outdoor boot camp with a fellow trainer from the
gym I was working with at the time, to better serve my clients and
help others that weren't members at the gym. Soon, I realized that
the big corporation I worked for had one focus: bringing in money.
They did not care about the clients at all. I did.

One day I had a client of 2 years come back after surgery only to
find out her sessions had expired even though she sent the
corporation a doctor's note explaining her inability to continue
training. I was told that they would reactivate the sessions...if she
committed to a bigger package first. This was when I decided to
open my own place with the help of my good friend and fellow trainer
Jerry Andrews, who was also fed up with the big corporations
attitude towards its members.

We founded Absolute Fitness NJ the rest is being written as we
speak. Helping our clients achieve their goals and giving them all
the tools they need to succeed is what we do.
Physical activity has been a part of my life since I was 10 years old.
My father sparked competitiveness in our household that
snowballed into how I approach fitness today. Every Sunday
morning before church, my brother and I would ride our bikes,
chasing my father through town, always trying to come out on top.
We would watch Mr. Olympian Lee Haney's bodybuilding show and I
was amazed by their size. I wanted to gain muscle, so my brother
and I started a dedicated work out regimen.

I played, basketball, lacrosse, and wrestled throughout high school.
Being competitive is natural to me. I always hated to loose, but
hated how fatigued after the games and practices more. I could
never understand why I felt so weak. Looking back, I understand
that my performance suffered because of how was eating. After
practice, I would chug a two liter of Pepsi and eat fast food.
I had
to make a change
. That summer, I increased my cardio, made a
point to eat right, and got stronger everyday.  By the time I was a
senior in high school, I felt better than ever.

After graduation, I went on to Rutgers University and began working
out at a local gym, where the Personal Training director
approached me about a job. He had noticed my workouts, and that
I didn’t do the same, tired, regime. Each day was totally different.
This is still how I approach creating workouts for myself and for my
clients..

I started working with a core group of clients, and began to develop
more unique workouts.  When I saw their results, I realized that I
was changing lifestyles and it felt good. I became extremely
passionate about helping someone push themselves mentally and
physically towards their goals.

My friend Rob Esposito and I  decided to make a move that would
challenge our clients with a different style of training by starting a
boot camp. We provided togetherness that big box gyms could not.
Our clients go beyond th e walls of our studio...we do things as a
community outside of training, like running local 5k's together.   Not
only do we motivate our clients, but they push one another to
succeed.

The boot camp eventually led us to take a leap and open our own
studio - Absolute Fitness NJ. Here, we are not only making the
impossible POSSIBLE, but adding a new level of excitement that a
gym simply can’t offer.  We have a bond with our clients that goes
beyond what you typically see, and they are walking testimonies for
how different and effective what we do is.
